Safety

Safety is the highest priority for the Perkes Holiday Ablaze Supershow. The primary concern is the safety of the audience, followed closely by the safety of the crew and performers.

The production incorporates flame effects, proximate pyrotechnics, and outdoor fireworks. All fire-related elements are designed, installed, and operated in full compliance with the applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, including:

  • NFPA 1123 – Code for Fireworks Display

  • NFPA 1126 – Standard for the Use of Pyrotechnics Before a Proximate Audience

  • NFPA 160 – Standard for the Use of Flame Effects Before an Audience

Key safety measures required by these NFPA standards and implemented for the event include:

  • Adequate display-site dimensions and required separation distances between hazards and the audience

  • Clearly marked audience boundaries and restricted areas

  • Dedicated audience monitors to prevent unauthorized entry into the display site

  • Trained fire watchers stationed to identify and respond to fire hazards throughout the performance

  • Readily accessible fire extinguishers and charged water hoses at proximate locations

  • Operation of all pyrotechnic and flame effects by a licensed and experienced lead operator

  • Full street closure in the audience viewing area (approved by North Logan City)

  • Use of low-hazard, non-aerial fireworks limited to 5/16-inch-diameter comets and mines (no exploding shells)

  • Review and written approval of the show by the North Logan City Fire Marshal

  • Issuance of a Special Event Permit by North Logan City

Environmental Considerations

The primary environmental concerns associated with the event are noise and light pollution, both from the nightly drive-through experience and the four scheduled Supershow performances.

Noise Mitigation

  • Written approval and authorization have been obtained from all nearest neighboring properties.

  • During regular drive-through nights, show music is broadcast via low-power FM transmitter and played inside visitors’ vehicles only, resulting in virtually no external noise.

  • Supershow performances use amplified music at a moderate level. To minimize disturbance:

    • Only four Supershows are scheduled

    • Each Supershow is limited to 30 minutes in duration

    • Performances are scheduled as early in the evening as practical to avoid interfering with normal sleeping hours

  • Only low-noise pyrotechnic devices are used

Light Pollution and Wildlife (Bird Migration) Protection

We recognize that the ideal solution for light pollution and avian safety would be no nighttime lighting at all. However, the core experience of “Holiday Ablaze” is a large-scale animated Christmas light display. The following measures have been implemented to reduce impact while preserving the intended guest experience:

  • All LED display lighting operates at approximately 50% of maximum power

  • High-intensity spotlights and searchlights are restricted to less than 50% duty cycle

  • Moving spotlights continuously sweep rather than remain fixed on any single location

  • Spotlight beams are directed away from the audience area, nearby residences, and the night sky when not actively needed for the show

  • The entire display operates only from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; all lighting is extinguished outside these hours

Summary

These combined safety protocols and environmental mitigation measures ensure that the Perkes Holiday Ablaze is conducted responsibly, in compliance with all applicable regulations, and with respect for both public safety and the surrounding community and environment.
